Shakya, Karki, Malla Tamang advance

Kathmandu, Mar. 8: Thel final round of Alll Nepal Carlsberg Snooker Championship began today at Dashrath Stadium.  A total of 86 players, who finished as winners and runners-up of preliminaries from 43 snooker outlets had made it through to the final round.

The tournament was inaugurtated by the managing director of Gorkha Brewery, C.P. Khetan.

Sudhan Shakya, Pranil Dhoj Karki, Keshar Malla, Prem Tamang all won easily on the  opening day. 3-0 win in the best of five frame matches.

Shakya beat Jeevan Tripathi 51-50, 73-39, 60-41, Karki was a 94-28, 42-38, 45-37 winner over Bishnu Shrestha while Malla and Tamang registgered 80-1-, 82-23, 72-26 and 74-19, 87-15, 96-7 win over Prem Malla and Bhavya Tulsyan respectively. Tamang registered the highest  break of the day, scoring 41 points in the second frame.

Pasang Gurung, Mohan Rai, Kiran KC Ramesh Rana, Roshan Shahi took four frames to complete their respective matches Gurung beat Suraj Rana, Rai beat Bikash Goel,  KC beat Ramesh Tamrakar, Rana beat  Radha Krishna KC, and Shahi beat Ramesh Bhattachan.

In one other exciting match Prakash Pradhan quelled the stiff challenge of Tenzing Gurung after  a gruelling battle that went all the way to the fifth frame.  Pradhan took the match with the score of 44-75, 81-27, 32-74, 67-43 and 61-35.
