At least seven people were killed due to flood, lightning and landslides in various parts of the country on Friday night and Saturday.
Three people, including two children of a family, died and six other people are missing in landslides Saturday in Tanahun district.
Bodies of two members of a family, Sunil Giri, 4, and Sujata, 6, who were killed in a landslide that hit the house of Suk Giri at Rishingrani Pokhari village development committee (VDC) 6, Tanahun, Saturday, have been recovered.
Sixty-year-old Suk Giri, his wife Hem Kumari, daughter-in-law Bal Kanchhi and her son Suman, 8, are missing, said former VDC chairman Jaman Singh Gurung.
The people have been facing a shortage of drinking water as the landslide damaged the water tank. The search for the missing persons is underway, reports quoted Tanahun Chief District Officer, Kashi Nath Marasini as saying. He added that two bodies have been found.
Meanwhile, Santa Maya Gurung, 30, was killed when a landslide hit Bangesal of Kabilas VDC of Chitwan Saturday, police said, adding Sarita, 6, and Kali, 2, daughters of Santa Maya, are missing.
A youth was swept away by the flooded Lothar river on the border of Chitwan and Makwanpur districts, police said. Dozens of houses have been submerged at Lions’ chowk of Narayangarh.
The dead has been identified as 15 year old Binod Sen, a student at Parrohaa Higher Secondary School.
Traffic on the Narayangarh-Mugling road section, which had come to a halt as over a dozen landslides hit the section Saturday morning, resumed partially in the evening.
Life was paralysed in Bara due to an incessant rainfall, a report said.
Meanwhile, two middle-aged persons died and 15 more were injured after lightning struck them at Chhatiwon area of Makawanpur district Friday night.
The dead have been identified as 55 year old Thula Kanchha Ghalaan and 50 year old Gete Lal Ghalan, according to the locals.
Those injured in the lightning could not be taken to the capital due to floods and landslides at a number of segments of the Prithivi Highway.
