Senior singer Koili Devi honoured

KATHMANDU:  Senior Singer Koili Devi Mathema was honoured with this year’s New York Kala Manch special prize in recognition of her special contribution to Nepali music sector, in Kathmandu Monday, RSS said Wednesday.

Vice-chancellor of Royal Nepal Academy Mohan Koirala presented the award comprising a purse of Rs. 35,000 and a letter of citation to Koili Devi.

New York Kala Manch, an organisation of Nepali artistes living in the United States of America presents the award, the agency said.

Koili Devi has contributed more than 4,000 songs to Nepali music to date. She began her career in Radio Nepal during its establishment time.

Vice-chancellor Koirala, music director Sambhujit Baskota, senior artiste Nir Shah and general manager of Sanskritik Sansthan Harihar Dahal shed light on the personality and contribution of Koili Devi. They also lauded the efforts made by the Manch for encouraging Nepali music industry from abroad.
