Seminar on public health, sanitation held

Bhaktapur, June 19 : Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality Prem Suwal says public health could be improved a great deal, if earthen water filters could be provided to the general public at low costs.

Mayor Suwal was speaking at a seminar on public health and sanitation organised by the district water supply office here the other day.

Chief of the District Water Supply Office Govinda Raj Upadhyaya disclosed that the office was going to organise a week-long clean up programme in conjunction with other awareness programmes to create public health awareness.

Chief District Officer Dhruba Raj Wagley said that the district water supply office should promote the construction and use of pit latrines in the rural areas.

General secretary of the Sachet Samaj, Bhaktapur Sila Sainju spoke about the works carried out by the samaj in the public health sector.

Director-general of the Department of Drinking Water, Gautam Prasad Shrestha, Chairman of Bhaktapur Municipality Ward -17 Amod Dhital, Madhu Rajthala and others also expressed their views on public health and sanitation.

The seminar was attended by teachers, people’s representatives, women social mobilisers, journalists and chiefs of various district-based offices.
