Officials say a search operation is underway to find out whereabouts of over 20 people—including children and women—reported missing since a boat they were traveling in capsized in Koshi river on Friday.
According to latest reports, local authorities have mobilised over half a dozen boats and are carrying out search operation with the help of local villagers to find out the missing persons. Those missing include over a dozen children and six women.
According to local villagers, nearly sixty people – who were returning after attending a marriage ceremony– were traveling in the ill-fated boat when it capsized in the swollen Koshi river Friday afternoon. A total of 36 people including bride Mantidevi, bridegroom Sanjiv Mandal, were rescued alive after the mishap.
Rescuers, however, say they have given up hope of finding over 20 people—who are still missing—alive.
