The Supreme Court Friday asked the Special Court to furnish explanation on the release of former ministers Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta and Khum Bahadur Khadka on a negligent amount of bail money although the two were charged with embezzlement running into millions.

The single bench of justice headed by Ramnagina Singh had issued the show cause notice as to why the two ex-ministers were released on such a negligible amount of bail money.

The show cause was issued after the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) lodged a petition at the Supreme Court seeking annulment of the bail given to the two ministers stating that their bail was not justified as the Commission had proof that they had misappropriated a huge amount of money.

Gupta was charged of impropriety while granting license to the Kantipur Television while Khadka was booked for embezzlement on the Bakraha River Control project.
