The Supreme Court has asked the High Level Commission formed to probe atrocities committed during the popular movement of the country to submit names of the people it has recommended the government for action.
Acting upon a public interest litigation filed by four people including general secretary of Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) Babu Ram Giri demanding action against the people recommended by the high level commission, the single bench of Justice Bal Ram KC directed the Commission on Friday.
Notwithstanding the Commission’s recommendation of action against all four chiefs of security agencies and other security officials, the government suspended nine security officials including three security chiefs.
The government suspended Inspector General of Nepal Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa, Inspector General of Armed Police Force Saha Bir Thapa and Chief of National Investigation Department Devi Ram Sharma but spared Chief of Army Staff Pyar Jung Thapa.
The writ has demanded suspension of all persons as advised by the high level commission.
