A fraction of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party led by Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa Monday decided to hold a meeting of the Central Council from February 21 to 22. A meeting of top central leaders of the fraction held this morning made the decision.
The meeting has constituted a 75-member organizing committee headed by minister Buddhiman Tamang while Bhwan Pathak, a central committee member, has been designated as member secretary.
Reports mentioned that the meeting has also decided to hold mass meetings in all 75 districts. PM Thapa himself is scheduled to address meetings in Pokhara, Jhapa and Sunsari on February 6, 11 and 13, respectively.
With these steps, Thapa fraction aims to ‘expose’ the establishment led by party chairman Pashupati SJB Rana.
Most of the central committee members supporting the government were present during today’s meeting chaired by Finance Minister Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani.
The RPP majority has, for the last few months, been demanding resignation of Thapa from the PM’s post citing his failure to win support from other parties.
Meanwhile, reports quoting RPP spokesperson Roshan Karki mentioned that the party chairman is preparing to call the meeting of the Central Council by the second week of March, insisting that what the government side is trying to do is against party codes.
