Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana has strongly criticised the government for its failure to manage the security situation in the country.
Addressing thousands of party cadres after draping the body of RPP lawmaker Krishna Charan Shrestha, who was murdered in the eastern district of Sirha on Saturday, RPP chairman Rana said that the fact that the government could not provide security to Shrestha reflected the government’s inability to manage the security situation in the country.
Rana also warned of staging an agitation if no action was taken against the guilty and if the names of the killers were not made public.
Shrestha’s body was brought to Kathmandu on a helicopter on Saturday itself.
The Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM), a breakaway faction of the Maoists has claimed the responsibility of the murder.
Newspaper reports quoted chairman of JTMM, Jaya Krishna Goit as saying that JTMM activists murdered Shrestha and also added that JTMM district commander Birahi Mahato and Commander Rudal Mahato were also killed during the incident.
After bringing the body of Shrestha to Kathmandu , Rana strongly condemned the act and demanded the resignation of Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula for the government’s failure to provide security to the people.
“The fact that even a member of parliament has been killed suggests the law and order situation is really pathetic,” Rana told reporters.
On February 2, 2004 , MP Hem Narayan Yadav was abducted and shot dead. Yadav was the MP from constituency no 4. Mystery still prevails about Yadav’s murder. Former chairman of the Siraha district development committee (DDC) and NC leader, Chandra Narayan Yadav, was also shot dead while on a morning walk on June 19, 2001. The Maoists had claimed responsibility for the murder after two months.
