Maoists have responded to the series of audiences by the King recently. In a statement Wednesday, Maoist chief Prachanda said the King wants to bring a “split” in parties through the “audience-tactic”.

“The audiences are nothing but the King’s tactic to bring division among the parties who have been protesting regression,” Prachanda said in the statement.

“The series of audiences is not going to give an outlet to the impasse the nation is undergoing now,” Prachanda further said.

“In the 21st century, Nepal’s national solidarity can be protected and promoted only through a republican set up, but not through the dictatorship,” he said.

The statement has further urged all parties not to quit their “anti-regressive” movement.

“We pledge all not to be confused with the ‘sugar-coated pills’ being provided in the name of royal audience,” he said. “We further request all to take the pro-republic expressions, delivered in the streets, unto to its decisive point.”

The King started granting audiences to political leaders from last Friday. Leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Girija Prasad Koirala and Narayan Man Bijukchhe received separated audiences from the King.

Badri Prasad Mandal, Deputy Prime Minister of the then Lokendra Bahadur Chand government and two sitting ministers Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani and Kamal Thapa also received separated audiences from the King. nepalnews.com mr Jan 8
