The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) is for the first time, implementing the Integrated Security Development and Rehabilitation Programme (ISDRP) in various districts, reports said.
Talking to Nepalnews, officials at the army headquarters informed that various development and security programs are being launched under the ISDRP in some districts, that are sensitive from the security point of view.
According to state-run news agency RSS, a study is on for social, economic and physical details via the ISDRP in the Rakam Karnali area of mid western Dailekh district. The Rakam Karnali VDC lies in-between the proposed Surkhet-Jumla Road.
The area is the entry point to far-flung Kalikot, Jumla, Mugu and Humla districts. The programme, going to be implemented on a stretch of land with an area of more than 500 ropanis on the bank of the Karnali River, will benefit the people living mainly in Binayak, Kamal Bazar, Barala (Accham), Sigaudi, Tilepata, Pipalkot, Sinhasain (Dailekh) and adjoining areas, according to the RSS.
The current population of Rakam Karnali VDC Ward No. 6 and 7 is around 3,000 and the people from this area walk 11 kilometres up to Tuni Bazar for purchasing their daily commodities.
Major Indibar Gurung, who holds a post-graduate degree in urban development planning, said the Rakam Karnali region will become a model of urban development under the ISDRP, the news agency said. “The programme also incorporates the concept of rehabilitating the families displaced due to various reasons,” he said.
Thousands of people from the region have been displaced to major towns of Nepal and bordering India due to the current conflict in the country, according to reports.
The RNA is going to enforce the concept of habitat development along with construction of the (112-197 kilometre) road section of the Surkhet-Jumla Road, it is said.
Noteworthy, local people of the mid-western region had requested His Majesty King Gyanendra, during his visit to the region last year, to initiate and complete the construction of the Surkhet-Jumla road.
