Rice feeding ceremony of Nava Yubaraj held

Crown Prince Paras, father of the Nava Yubaraj, fed his son solid food with a gold spoon. Queen Mother Ratna then fed her great grandson followed by King Gyanendra, Queen Komal and other members of the Royal family.

A 21 gun salute was presented on the occasion. As per tradition, Princess Prerana, paternal aunt of the Naba Yubaraj, put him on her lap as members of the Royal family fed him. Chaurashi Byanjan or 84 delicacies placed in silver platters were placed before the Naba Yubaraj.

Guns boomed in the air as Crown Princess Himani, the mother of Nava Yubaraj Hridayanendra Bir Bikram Shah first fed solid food to her first son Thursday. Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand and heads of constitutional bodies then greeted the Nava Yubaraj by presenting coins.

The function was conducted at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace. The ceremony began at the auspicious time of 10.05 AM.

The Nava Yubaraj then drove in a closed glass four white horse- drawn carriage past cheering crowds from the Narayanhiti Royal Palace to Kathmandu Ganeshsthan where he had a darshan of Lord Ganesh and went around the temple carried by Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand.

The Naba Yubaraj had a darshan of Lord Hanuman, Kalbhairab and Mahankal while he returned to the Royal Palace past cheering crowds. PM Chand gave the second in line to the Throne’s successor an elephant, horse and palanquin rides at the Royal Palace.

The King and Queen, Nepali dignitaries and diplomats later attended a reception held by the Queen Mother Ratna at the Palace to mark the occasion. The occasion was marked by a public holiday.
