Kathmandu, June 20: The high-level committee constituted to study measures for making the forthcoming elections more peaceful, reliable and transparent keeping in mind the past recommendation reports concerning elections held after the restoration of democracy in the country met today under the chairmanship of its chairman Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
Convenor of the sub-committee formed to submit recommendations to improve election act and regulations MP Krishna Prasad Sitaula and convenor of the sub-committee formed to submit suggestions for improving electoral management MP Ishwor Pokherel presented their progress reports today.
Presenting their reports at the meeting, the convenors apprised the committee of discussions and interactions held with officials of different bodies and suggestions received at seminars held in Hetauda, Pokhara, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi and Biratnagar and the central interaction programmes to be organised in Kathmandu in coming days.
According to the Cabinet Secretariat, the high-level committee expressed satisfaction at the progress reports and directed the sub-committees to submit their joint report within the specified time.
Present at the meeting were Speaker Taranath Ranabhat, chairman of the National Assembly Dr. Mohammad Mohsin, leader of the main opposition party at the Lower House Madhav Kumar Nepal, MPs Narayan Man Bijukchhe, Ishwor Pokherel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Ramesh Lekhak, Surendra Prasad Pandey and chief secretary Tirthaman Shakya.
