Regional drama competition begins in Dhankuta

Eastern Regional Drama Show Competition begun in Dhankuta Friday with the objective of promoting culture and art for peace and democracy.

The community hall in Dhankuta was packed for the show, which is managed by Matribhumi Theatre and organised by the Sanskritik Sansthan.

On the first day, ‘Hatyo Andhyaro’ (Darkness Cleared) by local journalist Gopal Baraili pulled 500 viewers, many of them were seen in tears rolling while watching the drama that narrates the disparity in the society even after the restoration of democracy.

Seven theatre groups from Taplejung, Solukhumbu, Bhojpur, Pachthar, Morang, Sunsari and Dhankuta are competing in the three-day show.

In his inaugural address, chairman of Sanskritik Sansthan J. B. Tuhure said they aimed at bringing the talents from remote villages to mainstream theatre through regional competitions like this.
