Gorkha, June 8: A two-day district level introductory seminar on safer motherhood organized here by the Department of Health Services and the Family Health Division, Kathmandu concluded recently.
On the occasion, gynecologists Dr. Dibyashowari Malla and assistant director Dr. Guna Laxmi Sharma of the regional health directorate, Pokhara imparted training on the objectives and the work plan of the safer motherhood programme, the situation of maternal deaths, study and research, problems in the implementation of the programme, NGO participation in strengthening of the safer motherhood project, role of women leaders and identification of reproductive health issues.
Dr. Malla said that both men and women had equal responsibility in reducing maternal mortality.
Some 40 persons including health workers from Gorkha Hospital, mid-wives, representatives from various social institutions and organisations and people’s representatives took part in the seminar.
Meanwhile in Nepalgunj, chairman of Banke district development committee (DDC), Omjung Rana inaugurated the seventh district meeting of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Banke district chapter here on Wednesday.
On the occasion, DDC chairman Rana urged the Fattebal Eye Hospital being run by the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Banke district chapter to serve the members of the economically deprived communities.
From the chair, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh district president Krishna Gopal Tandon said that there was complete transparency in the works of the hospital and the Sangh.
Patron of the Fattebal Eye Hospital Sri Jung Shaha also expressed his views on the occasion.
Treasurer of the district Netra Jyoti Sangh Kanhaiya Lal Tandon presented a budget of Rs 4,857,000 for fiscal year 2000/2001 while district member Umesh Kumar Agrawal presented the progress report.
Meanwhile, chief district officer Khem Raj Nepal gave away certificates to the successful participants of the carpentry training organised in Manpur Tapara Village of Bardiya district by the district land reforms office, Bardiya at a programme held here recently.
Twenty Kamaiya youths of the Tharu community from various VDCs of Bardiya district had taken part in the three-month training organised under the Kamaiya skill development programme.
