Ilam, June 17: Ilam Municipality organised a gathering at which it was decided that the use of plastic bags will be phased out in view of the environmental problem it creates.

The gathering, which concluded with slogans such as let’s reduce the use of plastic, let’s not discard plastic haphazardly, also stressed the need for popular awareness against increasing pollution. The gathering, chaired by Mayor Mahesh Basnet, stressed that garbage containers should be placed at public places throughout the town, discarded plastic recycled and public awareness aroused against environmental impact.

It was disclosed on the occasion that organic and inorganic waste has been separated from the town’s garbage and fertiliser prepared from the waste by way of demonstration.
