The high-level judicial probe commission headed by former Justice Krishna Jung Rayamajhi has said it is preparing to summon individuals who have been accused of suppressing the April Movement, including 13 former ministers and King’s advisors who have been kept in its watch list.
“The commission is preparing to start interrogating some individuals very soon… may be within two-three days,” commission’s spokesperson Dilli Raman Acharya told Nepalnews on Friday. He said the 13 persons, including vice-chairman of the erstwhile royal regime Dr Tulsi Giri, who are under the surveillance of the government after recommendation of the probe commission, might be summoned in the first-phase.
“Interrogation would be done based on their role [in suppressing the people’s movement],” he said.
Reminding that the commission has asked the government to keep the 13 persons under surveillance, Achrya said it is entirely for the government to implement the recommendations. The commission, he informed, has completed preliminary study in 24 districts across the country where casualties took place during the people’s movement in April this year. “The commission will send teams to the districts in future if need arises,” he said.
The commission has written to the government to keep 13 individuals: then vice chairman Giri, former home minister Kamal Thapa and ministers Niranjan Thapa, Badri Mandal, Tanka Dhakal, Salim Miya Ansari, Shrish SJB Rana, Senate Shrestha, Jagat Gauchan, Nikshya SJB Rana, King’s advisor and former member of the Raj Parishad Standing Committee, Sacchit SJB Rana, King’s honorary ADC, Bharat Keshar Simha, and Sharad Chandra Shah, a key advisor to the King.
Meanwhile reports said that Sharad Chandra Shah, managed to catch a flight to Bangkok from Kathmandu airport on Wednesday.
Shah, who arrived at the airport five minutes before the plane took off, managed to escape before the officials at the Airport informed and received orders from the Home Ministry to stop him.
