Rautahat, May 23: The poor community of Rautahat district have been attracted toward cooperatives being set up in the district.
At present, 33 cooperatives are actively involved mobilising the savings of the people in Rautahat district, according to the District Cooperative Office.
The main target of the cooperatives set up in accordance with the Cooperative Act-2048 B.S., under the economic liberalisation policy of His Majesty’s Government are the middle and poor community of the district.
The cooperatives which provide more interest than the commercial banks sent their employees to the doorsteps of the people to collect savings.
Sabina Dahal of the Chandranigahapur Economic Development Council says that she visits the houses of the saving depositors from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to collect savings daily.
The saving habits of the people have increased as they have started understanding the importance of the cooperatives, she adds.
Earlier the people who had doubts about the cooperatives have also started saving money in the cooperatives.
The conference is being hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology with the cooperation of UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development).
