Rajbiraj customs chief Tirtha Raj Khatiwada, abducted four days ago, was released on Friday, reports said.
Cadres of Terai Janatantrik Mukti Morcha released Khatiwada today. He was released after his family agreed to pay Rs 300,000 to the abductors. The Morcha had demanded Rs 500,000 but the ransom amount was decreased after initiation of media persons and human rights activists.
Human rights activists have condemned the act of the Morcha.
The then chief of Maoist affiliate Terai Mukti Morcha, Jay Krishna Goith, split and formed the Terai Janatantrik Mukti Morcha in July 2004. Since then, the group has been carrying on activities like armed attacks, abductions and murders.
