CPN (Maoist) chairman Prachanda held informal talks with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala this morning, ahead of a crucial summit meeting, which is scheduled to take place at 4:00 pm in Baluwatar.

According to reports, they discussed management of arms and armies, formation of interim government and interim legislature and process of the election to constituent assembly, among others.

Sources meanwhile said the meeting was held to finalise the political package to be announced from the summit meeting between the ruling seven-party alliance and the Maoists.

Maoist second in command Dr Baburam Bhattarai also accompanied Prachanda during his meeting with Prime Minister.

SPA and Maoist leaders have claimed that they have reached vital understanding on all key issues including that of arms management. The fourth round of summit talks were postponed as both the sides failed to reach consensus on the issue of Maoist arms management and the fate of monarchy.

Maoist supremo Prachanda also met with general secretary of CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, at the latter’s residence in Koteshwore and discussed political package to be agreed upon.

According to an UML source, Prachanda briefed Nepal about the agreement reached between him and Prime Minister Koirala on management or arms.

Likewise, Prachanda also met with leader of United Leftist Front and Minister for Agriculture and Cooperative, Prabhu Narayan Chaudhari, to discuss the political package.

NC, UML and NC (D) are also holding internal meetings to discuss the political package likely to be announced today.
