Prachanda continues political consultations; meets Minister Tripathi

Maoist chairman Prachanda has continued his political consultations with the leaders of seven political parties and intelligentsia to prepare for the second round of high level talks with the government.

Maoist chairman Prachanda met with general secretary of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi) and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply, Hridayesh Tripathi on Thursday today in this connection.

Senior Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattrai was also present on the occasion.

According to reports, the duo discussed the current political situation and implementation of the eight-point agreement reached between the top leaders of the seven political parties and Maoists held on June 16.

Tripathi made his party’s stance clear on the eight point agreement and its implementation.

Before the meeting with the Tripathi, Maoist supremo Prachanda met with families of the martyrs’ of the popular movement of the country.

Prachanda lauded the contribution of the martyrs for the success of the people’s movement of the country.

He received information about the assistance provided by the government and other things during the meeting.

At least 21 people received martyrdom during the 19-day long people’s movement of the country.

According to a Maoist source, Maoist Chairman Prachanda is also scheduled to meet prominent leaders of civil society on Thursday.

Maoist chairman Prachanda and senior leader Dr. Bhattarai are holding consultants with the leaders of seven political parties and Nepal based diplomats about the recent political development of the country.

Senior Maoist leader Dr. Bhattarai, and Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara had met Indian ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee at the latter’s office and sought Indian support in “institutionalizing democracy and peace process” in Nepal.

Similarly, Maoist spokesperson Mahara and central committee leader Suresh Ale Magar also met with the Swedish Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador for Conflict Management, Lena Sundh, who arrived here from Stockholm on Monday for a six-day ‘assessment’ visit.

After arriving in Kathmandu on Saturday, the Maoist supreme has held discussions with senior leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Nepali Congress (Democratic) and Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi), among others.
