Kathmandu, June 21: A high level Nepalese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Ram Chandra Paudel will take part in the next phase of the Social Development Geneva 2000 World Conference of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in Geneva from June 27 to July 1.
The delegation comprises Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Prithvi Raj Ligal, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the Geneva-based United Nations Dr. Shambhu Ram Simkhada, NPC joint secretary Ram Krishna Tiwari, second secretary at the Nepal’s Permanent Mission in the United Nations in New York.
A six-member technical team representing various agencies will also be taking part in the conference.
The main objective of the conference is to assess the commitment made by the member countries to the 10 points included in the poverty, employment and social integration for the humanitarian development in the first conference held in Copenhagen in 1995 and to identify points to be adopted for humanitarian development beyond 2000 and express its commitment to it.
According to the NPC Secretariat, the Heads of the State, the Prime Ministers, the Deputy Prime Ministers and the Ministers would be represented at the conference to be participated in by all the UN member countries.
Former prime minister the late Manmohan Adhikari had represented Nepal in the UN first Social Development Conference of the United Nations General Assembly held in 1995 in Copenhagen, the first to be held outside New York.
