Poor countries should get protection: PM Mahathir

“We shouldn’t ask a tiny bank in Nepal to compete with Citibank in the US. “It’s not fair,” AFP reported Malaysian Prime Minster Mahathir Mohamad as saying in Kuala Lumpur Thursday.

“We expect poor and weak countries to be given some protection. We should perhaps have some categories when it comes to competition,” the longest-serving leader of Southeast Asia reportedly said.

He asked developing countries to keep up the fight for fairer global trade and asked rich countries to help the poor grow. ‘Cities do not compete with villages, nor adult athletes with children,” the Malaysian Premier reportedly said.
