A police Sub-Inspector and a protester were killed when Madhesi demonstrators attacked a police post in Biratnagar Wednesday evening.

Reports said hundreds of activists of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) stormed into a police post at Buddha Nagar in the outskirts of Biratnagar and clashed with the police personnel at around 5:30 pm. Sub-Inspector Naresh Jung Karki, who was the in-charge of the police post, and one Sanananda Yadav were killed in the clash.

The protesters reportedly dragged Karki out of the post and “stabbed him to death. They also looted two rifles and a revolver from the police personnel.

The protesters also attacked the police post at Jhorahat, injuring at least four policemen including an Inspector.

Sporadic protests continued in Biratnagar despite an indefinite curfew announced Tuesday afternoon.

The attacks came within hours after Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala delivered a televised address to the nation, calling upon the protesting groups to opt for dialogue to resolve the problems.
