Police have been providing protection to the headquarters of the CPN (UML), a major opposition party, after a group of royal supporters threatened to vandalise the UML office on Saturday.
According to reports, a group of around 200 supporters of the royal move drove around Ring Road of the capital, Kathmandu, on motorbikes chanting pro-king slogans and carrying national flags. The group, reportedly affiliated to the youth wing of the ‘nationalist front,’ held a meeting at Kalanki and warned that they will attack the central office of CPN (UML) in retaliation of alleged attack on Crown Prince Paras by UML supporters on Friday.
Immediately after the conclusion of a huge mass meting at New Baneswore, UML supporters and pro-king activists pelted stones at each other on Friday. The motorcade of Crown Prince Paras—that was heading to Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome Their Majesties King Gyanendra and Queen Komal upon their return home—passed through the area when the clash was going on. A few security personnel were reported as injured during the clash.
Supporters of Crown Prince Paras have alleged the UML of deliberately attacking at the motorcade of the Crown Prince and have vowed to take revenge, according to reports
The UML has refuted such allegations and has, instead, alleged the pro-government elements of provoking its supporters after the conclusion of the mass meeting.
