Police identify looters; recover 200 thousand rupees

The police have identified all looters involved in Saturday’s incident of looting more than a dozen passenger buses in mid-western district of Dang.

According to reports, police also recovered 200 thousand rupees and some mobile sets looted from the incident site at Banaghusri area of Dang district in course of search operation carried out to nab the looters.

Police also recovered two motorcycles used in the robbery from some five kilometers far from the incident site.

Police have started checking vehicles in Bhalubang area to nab the robbers. Police said a group of nearly seven to eight looters equipped with pistols and SMGs’ were involved in the incident.

Superintendent of Police Rajendra Shrestha of the District Police Office informed that the police had already identified the looters and will make public their details soon.

An armed group of robbers looted cash and property of 600 passengers from a dozen vehicles at Chak Khola, Dang, on the Lamahi-Kohalpur section of the Mahendra highway on Saturday night.

The robbers obstructed highway and looted the passengers for four hours.

Most of the looted passengers were returning home from India for the upcoming Dashin festival.

There has been increase in the incidents of robbery in the highways after the government removed security posts placed in highways following the ceasefire announcement of the Maoists and the government and with the initiation of peace process.
