Twenty-four students were injured when students living in Tribhuvan University (TU) central campus boys hostel clashed with police when police used force in evacuating the hostel on Sunday.
According to reports, two student leaders were arrested and six injured students have been hospitalized in TU Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Student unions have condemned the campus administration for the use of police force inside the hostel. They have announced one-day closure of the TU on Monday and indefinite closure of TU principal and warden’s office demanding their resignation.
Meanwhile, clarifying the incident, the campus administration has said it was compelled to call the police as students living in the hostel defied the administration’s frequent calls to evacuate the hostel. The administration has also stated that it was necessary to evacuate the hostel so as to undergo legalization process and repair the hostel.
