Reports quoted the Valley Crime Investigation Branch (VCIB) as saying that police is on the lookout for the leader of the criminal gang, Sandip Pathak.
According to reports, all people involved in the incident are international Judo and Karate players and former army personnel.
According to VCIB, Sandip Pathak has fled to New Delhi. The police further said Pathak formed eight groups in the capital to extort money from people.
Preliminary investigation has suggested that the assailants are members of a criminal gang that has also been operating in India.
They had shot Dr Dixit at Baneshwor heights near Dhobikhola Bridge on May 4 after KMC management refused to pay Rs 20 million as demanded. Dr Dixit sustained serious injuries in the neck and abdomen.
