Police arrested over 100 victims of the Nagarkot incident from a protest programme organised in the capital, demanding compensation, on Thursday.
They were arrested as soon as they started the sit in protest in front of Singha Durbar, the main administrative seat of the country.
They were protesting the government’s passivity in providing compensation to the injured people and the families of those who died in the Nagarkot carnage, as per the recommendation of a probe committee.
According to reports, those arrested have been detained at the Mahendra Police Club and Ward Police Office, Koteshwore.
A committee led by lawmaker Pari Thapa has recommended that the government provide Rs 1 million to each of the families of the deceased people. Similarly, Rs 0.6 million has been recommended for people with lifelong disability and Rs 75 thousand and 25 thousand to those sustaining serious and normal injury respectively in the shooting by an inebriated army man.
12 people were killed and 21 others injured when army man Bashudev Thapa, who, after a minor dispute, sprayed bullets on a crowd of locals, who were singing and dancing at night during a local fair, at the Kalika Devi temple at Chihandanda of Nagarkot on December 14, 2005.
