PM’s consensus plan discussed

Kathmandu, July 5 : Representatives of the Prime Minister, in course of the dialogue held between them and RPP party representatives here today, informed in detail about the basic issues of the 14-point national consensus proposed by the Prime Minister.

Stating that the RPP had some time ago put forth the concept of greater national consensus after feeling the necessity for a minimum consensus and understanding between all political forces in the country in order to resolve the problems and challenges facing the country, RPP representatives on the occasion said that the rpp terms the Prime Minister’s effort to seek out national consensus through the 14-point programme as a positive attitude.

Apart from the 14-points presented by the Prime Minister, the RPP representatives recommended inclusion of a working plan for resolution of the Maoist problem, maintaining basic norms of national security and foreign policy, enforcement of low cost election processes which would also represent the spirit of the majority, provision for constitution of an impartial interim government prior to general elections, constitution of a code of conduct for political parties, representation in the Upper House on the basis of population, nationalities and the Madhesi community and proper measures for impartial running of government media.

A national conference of all national political parties should be organized and a reliable process and machinery developed for the implementation of policies, plans and programs prepared on the basis of national consensus, it was pointed out.

They also suggested that for effective implementation of the national consensus, the Nepali Congress should be ready to sacrifice something, if need be.

Those taking part in the talks were NC’s central member and Minister for Local Development Govinda Raj Joshi, spokesman Narahari Acharya and Minister for Sports and Education Amod Prasad Upadhyay and RPP vice chairman Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani, spokesperson Kamal Thapa and central members Balaram Ghartimagar and Hari Bahadur Basnet.
