PM stresses unity among all for sustainable peace

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has urged all to act responsibly to fulfill the people’s aspiration for peace as per the historic agreement reached between the ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists.

Briefing the House of Representatives on Tuesday’s agreement on Thursday, the PM urged all to conclude the peace process by holding the elections to the Constituent assembly.

The Prime Minister further said that when a unified nation moves ahead with mutual cooperation and understanding, the people’s aspirations for sustainable peace can people be fulfilled.

Stating that some reactionary forces might try to make the agreement a failure, the PM also urged all to be cautious of such forces. Stating that the accord was his gamble with political stakes, the PM also lauded the role of all for making the agreement possible.

The premier also urged the Maoists to thoroughly follow the agreement and create fearless environment during the election of the constituent assembly.

Koirala further said that reinstatement of the House of Representatives and the agreement are two historic decisions following the April movement.

Koirala informed that the international communities had been pleasantly surprised to see the deal reached within a short time. He also said the UN is eager to assist Nepal peace process.

Meanwhile, speaking on Thursday’s session of the parliament, lawmakers demanded strict enforcement of the agreement to restore sustainable peace in the country.

Addressing the house session CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said that all the issues should be settled in the deadline mentioned in the agreement.

Nepali Congress general secretary Ram Chandra Paudel and President of NC (Democratic) Sher Bahadur Deuba also stressed the need for strictly implementing the agreements.

The ruling SPA and Maoists on Tuesday signed a deal paving way for formal entry of the Maoists into the peaceful political mainstream.
