Prime Minister GP Koirala has expressed Nepal’s full support and cooperation to the efforts of the United Nations to establish peace in conflict-hit countries across the globe and added that the Nepali Army was mobilising itself with much vigour in maintaining law and order not only within the country but also outside the country.

A press release issued by the Directorate of Public Relations of the Nepali Army (NA) said PM Koirala also expressed the confidence that the NA would be successful in its mission, and would remain honestly committed to protection and promotion of democracy as per the aspirations of the Nepali people.
Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Rukmangad Katawal, who had inspected the training of the 5th contingent of the Barakh Battalion, the first contingent of the Srijung Battalion leaving for a UN peace keeping mission at MINUSTAH, Haiti, and the seventh contingent of the Shree Ranabhim Battalion leaving for a UN peace keeping mission in Congo, at the Birendra Peace Keeping Training Centre, Paanchkhal Wednesday read out the Prime Minister’s message.
On the occasion, CoAS Katawal said as per the government’s policy the NA has been serving as peacekeepers in various conflict-hit countries around the world since the past five decades.

He further said that this role has been highly evaluated and lauded by the world community including the United Nations.
CoAS Katawal also observed various combat skills displayed by the army personnel, in preparation for the peacekeeping mission.
High-ranking officials from the Defence Ministry and Nepali Army were present on the occasion.
