Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba Wednesday reviewed the security situation in the country as Maoists escalate attacks on individuals and infrastructure ahead of a nation-wide strike call later in September.
PM Deuba reviewed the internal law and order situation with all security chiefs, including Acting Chief of the Army Staff Lt. Gen Pyar Jung Thapa, an announcement said.
Security for the November 13 polls also figured in the meeting. Deuba was huddled with his security chiefs one day after returning home from trips to Europe and Thailand.
Minister for Water Resources Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar said a decision whether to extend an emergency that lapsed last Wednesday will be held after Deuba’s return and on the recommendation of security forces.
But there will be no emergency during an election campaign for the November 13 vote, Deuba said. Opposition parties have opposed its extension.
