Plans to expand trade with China discussed

Kathmandu, Jan. 11 : Officials of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Nepalese Consular General to Tibet, the Autonomous Region of China Shankar Prasad Pandey discussed on the expansion of trade between the two countries at the office of the Chamber recently.

On the occasion, Consular General Pandey said as the Chinese tourists are willing to visit Nepal, special efforts should be made for inviting them to Nepal and as demands for Nepalese rice, bananas, oranges, sugar, food items and handicrafts items are high in Tibet, the business community should give special attention to it.

He said talks are underway with the Bank of China, Lhasa and the Khasa Branch to run banking transanctions and arrangements have been made to train the branch employees by the Bank of China central office, adding that HMG is positive in carrying out trade through banking.

He said Nepal should participate in the fair to be organised at Sigatse as well as in the joint- fair of Nepal and Tibet to be organised in September as Nepal- Tibet relations are very cordial.

President of the Chamber Rajeshkaji Shrestha said as Tibet is a good market for Nepal, Nepalese goods should have easy access to the market, no local tariffs should be levied on goods imported to Nepal from various provinces and cooperation should be encouraged by the Chamber to run fairs, exchanges of visits by the industrialists and businessmen and to carry out transaction through banking as well as to expansion of tourism from the missions.

Present at the discussion were former president of the Chamber Mahesh Kumar Agrawal, first vice president Jagadish Prasad Khetan and general secretary Suresh Kumar Basnet.
