Pemba Doma Sherpa, an adventurous woman mountaineer who holds the record of being the first Nepali woman to scale Mt. Everest from the northern face, died near Mt Lhotse on Monday.

A permanent resident of Namche-1 of Solukhumbu district, Sherpa met an accidental death at Yellow Belt area at an altitude of 8000 meters while returning after successfully ascending the 8516 meter high mountain.

A rescue team that had been dispatched to the area has recovered Pemba’s dead body and will bring it to Namche after three days.

The government issuing a release yesterday expressed grief on the unfortunate demise of the adventurous mountain climber and extended heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.
