Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party and former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa has said that the dialogue between the Maoists and the political parties should be analyzed as positive development as the government has abandoned the path of seeking a solution of the conflict.

“All efforts towards resolving the Maoist insurgency should be taken positively rather than arguing in the issue of who is initiating the effort, ” report quoted former premier Thapa as saying.

Stating that elections would be meaningless unless all political parties take part in the elections, Thapa said the government should not hold elections without finding the solutions of the current political impasse of the country.

Speaking at a press meet in Bhairahawa on Sunday, former Prime Minister Thapa said the King and political parties should reach an understanding to resolve the problems dogging the country including Maoist insurgency and added the government should initiate efforts to transform the three-month long ceasefire into sustainable peace in the country.

Former Premier Thapa alleged that instead resolving the problems of the country the government is trying to curb the free media of the country.

“Conflict is the main problem of the country but the government is muzzling the press,” reports quoted Thapa as saying.

Regarding the International Community’s concern over Nepal’s state of affairs Thapa said it could not be labeled as foreign Intervention.
