Two opposition parties Monday obstructed proceedings for the third consecutive day forcing Speaker of the House of Representatives Taranath Ranabhatt to adjourn the session until Tuesday.
Members of the RPP and the NSP rushed to the speaker’s chair and shouted slogans against Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba immediately after the Speaker gave permission to Ram Chandra Paudel of the ruling Nepali Congress party to make a statement.
The Speaker adjourned Monday’s session when opposition members continued to shout anti-Deuba slogans despite requests to take their seats.
The two opposition parties say Deuba’s decision to freeze land sale and transfer last week ahead of a reduction in land ceiling is illegal and unconstitutional; communist parties in parliament have supported Deuba’s move.
