The Legislative Parliament Sunday passed a motion condemning the killing of 28 people in Rautahat district headquarters Gaur on Wednesday.
The public interest motion tabled by Maoist parliamentary leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara was approved unanimously. The motion demands a high-level commission, on the basis of political consensus, to probe the Gaur killings, tough action against the culprits, compensation to the victims’ families and free treatment to the injured people.
The motion also asks the government to seize the weapons possessed by anti-Maoist retaliation groups that were active during the Maoist conflict, as well as a ban on groups that pose threat to communal harmony and the country’s sovereignty.
Responding to the queries raised by MPs, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Situala said the government firmly believed that the perpetrators of Gaur massacre must not at all be let off. He also informed that seven people had so far been arrested on suspicion of involving in the incident.
Mentioning that the government formed an investigation commission in view of the sensitivity of Gaur incident, the Home Minister made clear that law, not politics, should take its course in order to bring the criminals to justice.
He also said the government was positive about seizing the weapons distributed to the retaliation groups in the past.
MPs Parshuram Meghi Gurung, Nabaraj Subedi, Ram Bahadur Bista, Govind Bikram Shah, Govinda Shah, Jayapuri Gharti, Hari Acharya, Sunil Prajapati and others demanded that proper action should be taken against the perpetrators of Gaur massacre.
