The House of Representatives, Lower House of Parliament, approved the vote on Accounts Bill 2001 presented by Minister for Finance Dr Ram Sharan Mahat at the House Friday.
The Vote on Accounts Bill authorizes the government to spend from the exchequer for day-to-day work until the budget for the Fiscal Year 2001/02 is approved by Parliament. Had the Accounts Bill not been passed, the government would not have
been allowed to spend any money from Monday—the day the next Fiscal Year
begins.
Minister for Finance Dr Mahat presented the annual budget for the fiscal year 2001-02 on July 9. Finance Minister also replied to the queries of lawmakers of different
parties relating to the budget for the fiscal year 2001-02.
The leftist parties in parliament including main opposition UML boycotted the meeting of both the Houses of Parliament demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
