KATHMANDU: Paddy production will fall by 1.92 percent this fiscal year 2001/2 because of inadequate rainfall especially in east Nepal, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives said.
Less land was under cultivation as well. Production last year stood at 4.1 million tons. But maize production, another staple crop is expected to jump by 1.4 percent to 1.5 million tons.
