The Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation, Nepal (PABSON) Saturday called upon the concerned sectors to withdraw the strike of academic institutions starting Monday expressing commitment to introduce massive reforms in the academic institutions and deduct the tuition fees by 25 per cent.
PABSON has made public a 11-point code of conduct with the objective of finding a way out from the present impasse seen in the academic sector. The All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (revolutionary) had called the indefinite strike of academic institutions voicing for the fulfillment of
several demands including the need to curtail the defense budget by 75 per cent and divert the resources for the development of the academic sector.
One other demand of the rebels was that the government must lift the terrorist tag labeled on the Maoists if the academic institutions are to the re-opened. Though the government came up with a 29-point package to revamp the education sector, the rebel students claimed that the package failed to address their demands.
Meanwhile the National Human Rights Commission has appealed to the rebel student body to withdraw the strike call and respect the right to education of thousands of students nationwide.
