Police have taken into custody over four-dozen Maoist victims who were organizing sit-in protest in front of the western gate of Singha Durbar Monday morning.
The Maoist victims have been organizing protest programmes to pressurize the government to fulfill their 10-point demands.
The Maoist victims have been asking the government and the Maoists to create conducive environment for them to return to their villages.
On Sunday, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that it will pressurize the government to fulfill the demands of the Maoist victims. The NHRC also asked the government to respect the Maoist Victims’ right of peaceful protest and also added that it will monitor their protest.
According to Nepal Maoist Victims Association (NMVA), of the 5,000 displaced families living in Kathmandu, only 2,000 were able to return to their villages following the announcement of ceasefire.
Meanwhile, over three-dozen temporary teachers were injured when police baton changed them as they were trying to move towards Singha Durbar, a restricted area, demanding fulfillment of their demands.
They have been demanding permanency in their job.
Police took the action saying they got the orders from higher authorities, according to reports. Seven critically injured temporary teachers are undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital.
