Police has arrested a total of 465 teachers at around 9 am Thursday. The teachers were on sit-in protests in front of the Education Ministry putting forth seven-point demands.
According to District Police Office, Kathmandu, they were detained as their protests were obstructing vehicular movement in the area.
“They will be released today (Thursday) evening,” said Superintendent of Police Dipak Ranjit, claiming that the police did not baton-charge the teachers while arresting them in the morning.
Earlier on Wednesday, over 150 protesting teachers were arrested and released after eight hours of their detention.
The teachers, among other demands, have been pressing the government to compensate their conflict-affected colleagues, provide permanent jobs to temporary teachers and stop disappearances of the teachers and provide proper security arrangements to them. nepalnews.com mr Jan 8
