Maoists have abducted more than 300 students from various schools in Okaldhunga district.

The rebels have abducted students of lower secondary and secondary level students of as many as 18 schools in Chanam, Parapcha, Katunje, Mulkharka, Phediguth, Kalika, Balkhu, Sisneri, Ghorakhori, Yasam, Gamangtar, Palapu, Pokali and few other VDCs in the last couple of days, reports quoting locals said Wednesday.

Teachers and guardians who have come to the district headquarters said the insurgents forcefully took away students of grade 8, 9 and 10, saying they would be returned after participating in a four-day training programme on ‘communist education’ at an undisclosed location.

The Maoists marched 15 to 100 students from each school to western region of the district.

Guardians and school administrations have expressed worry about the safety of the students who were abducted when their examinations were going on.

The abduction has terrorised the entire education sector in the region while students have stopped going to schools for fear of being abducted, reports added.
