Police said they have taken into custody a total of 120 protesters affiliated to the seven party opposition alliance as they were trying to enforce day-long shutdown strike in the capital valley on Friday.

According to Kathmandu Valley Police Office at Ratna Park, police took 89 people in custody from Kathmandu and 31 from Bhaktapur. It said 21 policemen were injured during clashes with irate demonstrators. The opposition parties said dozens of their cadres and student activists were also injured during clashes with police.
Students studying at various colleges affiliated to the Tribhuvan University clashes with police throughout the day. Police resorted to baton-charging and fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Angry students pelted stones at vehicles plying on the roads and also tried to uproot bill-boards carrying royal messages.
The seven party opposition alliance had called nationwide protests and valleywide shutdown strike on Friday in protest of killing of a dozen civilians during a local fair by a solider in Nagarkot VDC, Bhaktapur Wednesday night.
Major cities including Biratnagar, Janakpur, Pokhara and Chitwan were affected due to protests organized by the opposition parties. In Pokhara, at least one dozen students and one dozen policemen were injured during clashes.
