Biratnagar, Jan. 3 : His Royal Highness Crown Prince Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev inaugurated the Eastern Region Orphanage Building Children’s Service Home amid a function organised at Ashram Tol of Biratnagar sub-metropolis Ward No-17 today by unveiling a copper plaque.
HRH the Crown Prince presented letters of appreciation to individuals rendering special services and cooperation to the orphanage. Those presented the letters are pediatrician Dr Basant Kumar Bataju, Dr Miss Bijaya Laxmi Shrestha, the representative of the Spanish Organisation Amigos Del Nepal, representative of the Rotary Club of Trilium/IDI Canada Basudev Golyan and Badri Prasad Chainwal.
The main building of the orphanage spreading over about 2.5 bigaha of land was constructed at a cost of 115,000 Canadian dollars received from various Canadian organisations at the initiative of Canada resident Dr James Thomson.
The orphanage is home to 36 boys, 21 girls and 13 elderly people.
HRH the Crown Prince also inspected various buildings and rooms of the orphanage and graced a dance Programmeme presented by children living at the orphanage.
Speaking at the function, Minister of State for Women and Social Welfare Mrs Kamala Devi Pant said His Majesty’s Government is committed to the protection of the rights of children and their well-being.
Chairperson of the orphanage Mrs Sita Pokharel and member-secretary Kagendra Acharya shed light on the various activities and programmes of the orphanage.
