One security personnel was killed and five others injured in clashes between security forces and Maoist insurgents at Arunkhola along the Butwal-Narayanghat section of Mahendra highway in Nawalparasi district. The clashes had lasted a whole day on Thursday, reports said.
The security patrol from Kawasoti barrack deployed to clear the road blockade at Arunkhola had fallen in the Maoists ambush at around 9 a.m., reports said. Vehicular movement was disturbed since Tuesday as Maoists blocked the highway at various places.
According to security sources, the forces launched aerial and land attack against the rebels after the clashes. At least half a dozen Maoists were also killed in the clashes, sources said, adding, “The number of the Maoists killed is yet to be verified.”
