One Maoist was killed in Panchthar Wednesday and at least five civilians, including a student, were seriously hurt in a Maoist-laid ambush in Sindhupalchowk on Thursday, various reports said.
The ambush was one of the four electric ambushes laid by the Maoists at a road in Lagarche VDC-9, Khalte of Sindhupalchowk district, the reports said.
After the explosion, security forces diffused the explosive devices set for the three other ambushes before they could cause damage, the reports said.
The injured student was a grade 10 student, named Pradip Shrestha. Among the four wounded, a civilian Birkha Bahadur Rai is in serous condition, according to the reports.
All the five wounded were immediately airlifted in an army helicopter to Kathmandu for treatment, the reports said, adding, security forces have been looking for the culprits in the area.
In Panchthar, a Maoist, Bibek Jabegu alias Aakah was shot dead in retaliatory action while he attempted to lay an electric ambush to trap the security forces Wednesday.
Socket bombs and other apparatus were found from the incident site, the reports said.
Meanwhile, reports from Okhaldhunga said nearly a dozen Maoists, including the vice-chairman of the rebels’ “villager government”, Chhung Nuri Sherpa, have surrendered at the district administration office Wednesday.
