After massive loss of lives and property, people in flood-hit mid-western district of Bardiya are now blighted by spread of diseases.
More than 2000 people in 31 VDCs and Gulariya Municipality affected by floods in Bardiya have been diagnosed with diseases like diarrhea, conjunctivitis, typhoid and malaria, reports said quoting the District Health Office.
A newborn of Hira Bahadur Tharu of the flood-hit Sangharsha Nagar village died of pneumonia Sunday. Two deaths were reported earlier in Rajapur Tapu following the outbreak of diseases after a massive flood there.
Despite the government’s claim that health teams with medicines have been sent to a number of areas in Bardiya, they have not reached most of the flood-hit areas until Sunday, according to reports.
Rescue workers estimate that more than 50 thousand people have been affected by floods triggered by late monsoon downpour last week in the district.
