One person killed in the security action carried out on Friday to foil a Maoist attempt to rob Agricultural Development Bank in Chitwan was an innocent civilian, reports Monday said.

The victim identified as Hareram Thakur, 32, was a laborer who during the operation was working at a construction site nearby.

Reports quoted local eyewitnesses as saying that Hareram was gunned down on the spot when he tried to run for safety as the security forces started firing.

Authorities are yet to acknowledge this. Reports also mentioned that the authorities have refused to hand over victim’s body to his relatives.

In the meantime, the CPN-Maoist has confirmed that five of its militants were killed in the incident whereas the Royal Nepalese Army has announced to promote the soldiers who successfully foiled the robbery attempt to higher rank. nepalnews.com mbk Jan 26 04
